One day my husband left early to go fishing with my father and two of his friends out on Lake Erie. I didn’t expect him back until closer to dinner time, but when that time came and went I called my step-mom and asked if she had heard from them.
She hadn’t. In fact, she said they should have been off the water and checked in at the very least. We spent the rest of that night and well into the next day wondering what had happened to them.
That’s how this true story was born. We really went through this and it was scary and surreal and exhausting. Part of writing it was getting the details down before I forgot them and the other part was almost like therapy, processing all the wild emotions that I hadn’t been able to process while it was happening.
But the story isn’t just about those of us waiting at home to hear any news of our loved ones, it is also about what they went through as they sat on their capsized boat waiting for rescue.
I hope you enjoy it. Leave me a comment if you do.
