Poetry and Watercolor Fun

With some supplies my daughter, the artist, sent me, I started painting watercolors. I have to admit I wasn’t very good at first, but I enjoyed doing it. I look forward to being able to sit down and paint every day. It’s very therapeutic.

But I am first of all a writer so I started pairing my latest paintings with some of my poems. I plan to add a poem or short story for every new painting. That will be a fun challenge. I hope you enjoy this sample.

Watercolor painting of a sunrise over a snow covered field.

“The sun will rise and it will set

And I upon my front door step

Will sit and watch the world go by

‘they run to catch the wind’, says I

I wonder if they note we have a sky”

NIGHT

“I meet with night as with a friend

I nod my head and greet the wind

I watch the moon as she climbs high

I lift my hands and touch the sky”

Watercolor painting of brightly colored autumn leaves on a forest floor.

*disclaimer – the watercolor is mine, but the photo I used as an inspiration is not.

“A lonely leaf fluttered down
On wind and wave he traveled on
On to where the river ends
To meet his many colored friends”
