A Cabin in the Woods

This painting started out with a color idea. I had a specific color combination in mind and every color I chose had to fit the palatte I was going for. I am very happy with the result and I love the colors!

I didn’t intend to paint our cabin, but it just happens to be a very clear reference point, so though it isn’t exact, it is definitely a take on our cabin with some wishful thinking thrown in. Now no matter how long the cabin is in our family, the memories of it are preserved in this painting and poem.

The Cabin in the Woods


Holds memories and laughter
Visions of a thousand fallen leaves
And a warm fireplace

Barefoot summers
A boat on the lake
Fishing with the grandkids
A swim on a hot day

A deck with room to grill
And rockers for evening chats

Murmured talking around the fire
Smores and hotdogs
Until the wee hours

Board games
Puzzles and cards

Frogs and turtles
Chasing garter snakes in the yard
