Spring Shift

One of my favorite thing about Spring is all the fresh, fragrant smells in the air. You can feel a subtle shift in the outdoors as the air warms, buds and blooms starting appearing, and oh the smells! So delicious. I just want to breathe them in.

One of the first things that blooms at my California abode is the wisteria climbing the fence. I attempted to paint it and then wrote this poem to Spring.

Watercolor painting of a purple wisteria vine.
A beautiful scent
Drifting on a warm breeze

New growth
Emerging from patches of snow
Still clinging to the ground

Infant leaves and fragrant blossoms
Promises not yet fulfilled
But exciting nonetheless

The world is waking up
From its slumber

Yawning and stretching
To break free of its icy tomb

Which holds not death,
But life
In the smallest of packages

Winter is not death
But a deep sleep

And it's time to wake up!
